My friend and I like to share interesting passages of Scripture which we find in our regular reading, and this morning he sent me two seemingly conflicting passages of Scripture which cause one to think about a very serious issue: does God cause man to sin? The Scriptures in question are: Again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, “Go, number Israel and Judah.”2 Samuel 24:1 Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel.1 Chronicles 21:1
A little while ago, I was at a friend’s house and I shared with him a video of a black gospel choir in Japan (link). He made the comment, “I wish I was just as passionate” as them. As usual, it got me thinking about what sort of believers are we seeking in our churches? What is the aim of our preaching and ministry each week? Is it passionate believers? In response to A holiday message from Ricky Gervais: Why I’m an Atheist “Why do you believe in God?” Unlike the popular comedian, Ricky Gervais, I don’t get asked that a lot. Tonight, I was at a presentation of the alleged discovery of Noah’s Ark. As I sat there and listened, I began to reflect upon the significance, if any, that this could potentially have upon the Christian faith. Then I started to realise and asked myself this question: Does the discovery of Noah’s Ark (and evidence of any Biblical historical event/narrative) have any impact upon the establishment of the truth of Christianity—that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, come to die for the sins of all humanity, risen on the third day in victory of the chains of sin and…
What happens when you bring a group of people from different backgrounds together with the desire of seeing God’s kingdom come?? What happens when these people join together in worship of one God? What happens when these people sit around a table to openly discuss the critical importance of prayer in God’s kingdom? What happens when these people humble themselves to hear from one another the heart cry for God to renew their city? In a word, unity happens.
