  • James 1:19-20 After James' opening discussion on the realities of trials and temptations, he moved into the realm of practical living, beginning with the issue anger. What is now an old "modern" proverb finds its roots in this letter of James and even further back. Even for James, it echoes something with greater and older foundations.   • It comes as no surprise to me that the Christian church (Catholic and Protestant alike) is in decline when the central foundation – the Bible – is not given the respect and treatment that it should be granted. Given that the Bible is the foundational scriptures of the Christian faith, while it may be held in high esteem, it certainly doesn’t seem to have a place within the Christian life. In recent discussion with friends, browsing various churches on the Internet, looking at the top 25 Christian podcasts, it brought to my attention how little the Bible is actually taught.

  • What a day! I tell you, what these eyes have witnessed in the last 12 hours has just made somewhat of a crazy day. My day began with a visit to my mission agency to join in their weekly staff meeting. It proved to be quite extraordinary with a visit from an old missionary lady who had recently just returned from a trip to PNG. What was so extraordinary about that?

  • James 1:16-18 There was one point which James emphasised in the opening verses of this letter: get the right perspective on life! He opened with a discourse on faith and trials that reminded readers that trials are there to show the true colours of a person and mature their faith.
