  • is not Michael Jackson. I was intending to write a simple reflection about society’s idolatry and its new temple, based on the book of Amos which I’m currently preaching, however, I heard two quotes from MJ’s memorial that, simply, tipped me over the edge. Before I get into that, let me just summarise my prior thoughts: From the book of Amos, we see Israel manipulated and corrupted the religious system of the day. • Having just picked up my guitar after only a few weeks of not playing it, I’m reminded of the sense of freedom that it brings me. To be able, at any given time, reach out, grab my guitar and play whatever my fingers decides to do is a blessing that I don’t take for granted. By no means do I consider myself musical, though many of you will argue that as I play the piano, violin, guitar and conducted choirs in the past. However, my talent expands only to my personal enjoyment; in any public setting my talents simply are…

  • I’ve come to realise, it’s pretty hard to make an impressive display of fireworks each year at events like Moomba. People, usually, are impressed by the bigger *bangs* and the colour sparkle-filled sky; with expectations of the following display to be more *bangs* and more colour-sparkle fireworks, something new and something unseen. Truth be told, if you’ve seen 2 or 3 displays (or just the New Year’s fireworks display) you’ve probably seen what fireworks have to offer. Besides from that, a lot of thought goes into the placement of fireworks, such as the use of the Sydney Harbour bridge which…
